After 2 years of online meetings, the Brigade Club of Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School hosted its first training camp in years on the 5th to 6th of May. The host, Private Karen Lam, had hoped for club members to get to know each other better whilst honing their skills in the multiple fields The Boys’ Brigade had to offer. It was a success thanks to the esprit de corps shared between committee members and the cooperation given by club members.
After a short roll call at 8 am, we started off the first day with a series of ice breakers, followed by 2 sessions of BB knowledge classes. It was an engaging, informative yet fun morning. The activities that ensued after lunch were polishing uniform parts, physical training and drill. All of these activities are essential in order to teach members about the fundamentals of a Brigade club member. We were dismissed on the first day at 5 pm.
The second day was both nerve-wrecking and exciting due to the inter-squad drill competition. Members made their final efforts that morning to prepare for the challenge coming up before them. At 10:30 am, the two squads competing led by Corporal Audrey Lu and Private Sean Yong respectively entered the drill ground. We were honoured to be granted an audience by our principal, Mr Chung and CCA masters. It was a close match with a small difference in scores, but squad 2 emerged as the victor! Mr Chung handed out prizes to the winning squad and gave some words of motivation. The competition came to a close with a group photo taking session.
That afternoon, we had an arts and crafts class, a 2nd physical training session and a sharing session. Our members were exhausted from a long morning so a more relaxing set of activities were a better choice overall. We then cleaned up the classroom, took a final group photo together and said our goodbyes. That marks the end of the BB Training Camp of 2022.
