On the 13th, 14th and 20th of November, the Creative Science Innovation (CSI) Club organised the CSI Virtual Science Camp for the students of STTSS. The theme of this camp was “Environmental Science” with the camp name “𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 绿之梦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏”.
The aim of this camp was to inform students of the seriousness of climate change. CSI Club wanted to raise awareness of the urgency of climate change and the disasters that may arise due to the change in global temperature. Moreover, participants could learn how to take action towards sustainable living and against carbon-emitting activities.
Throughout these three days, participants had the opportunity to experience various interesting and educational activities. For example, the experiments of making bioplastics and stimulating greenhouse gases. Interactive games such as Life Game, Scavenger Hunt and Polar Impact were well-received by all the participants. Besides scientific knowledge, these games were meant to teach critical lessons of humanism and civil awareness. For example, in the Life Game, participants were taught first-hand a valuable lesson that all countries have to be united in order to reverse the damages of carbon emission. Of course, competitive activities such as the Mini-Quiz and Poster Design were held to test their scientific knowledge and creativity.
The principal, Dr. Chung expressed his admiration for this camp. He reminded us that we should adopt the scientific and empirical methods in our daily lives. He commended us on living out the ‘Craftsman’s Spirit’ through the participation of this camp. Meanwhile, the advisor of this camp, Mr. Lim Boon Kiat expressed the urgency for the young generations to take their place as future leaders and contribute to the solution of critical environmental issues. Besides that, he stressed the importance to be the change we want to see in the world – starting with ourselves in our own school.
The CSI Virtual Science Camp 2021 was certainly an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience for all the participants. On behalf of the CSI Club, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this camp a success and all who participated in it. We hope to see you again next year!
