Willpower – Can We Say No?

Willpower is the answer;
It is what we all need.
Let it dazzle into brilliance,
Let it thrive and flourish;
Power head-on with diligence,
Onwards with confidence.
Wither and shrivel we shall not;
Effort and determination –
Remember and all is well.

As the saying goes, action speaks louder than words. We must practice what we preach.  What do all these mean? You can google them or you can ask around. At the end of the day, it all boils down to one thing – are you doing enough to secure a future for yourself and your loved ones?

Undeniably, everyone of us is suffering from ‘pandemic fatigue’. We feel unmotivated and stressed from the endless amount of SOPs and countless recommended behaviours to protect ourselves and others from the virus. We feel that our freedom has been curtailed, and it is time to take the bull by the horns.  Unfortunately, the intention does not equate with the result we hope for. As you can well see from the rising cases of Covid-19 in our nation.

We have truly fallen from the horse. We need to get back in the saddle fast or all is lost.  How do we do that? Simple, all it takes is willpower.  But, do not confuse it with stubbornness. Willpower is not about resisting, forcing or controlling – it is about choosing. Yes, choosing the right actions, and making the right decisions.  It will not be easy. Who say it will? Life is hard. Life will throw you a curve ball. To beat it out of the park, you will need all your strength and determination. Never choose the easy way out as the relief is only temporary.

As students, you need to complete your studies. As working adults, you need to finish your job. As parents, you need to fulfilled your obligations. As teachers, we need to discharge our responsibilities. We can all berate until the cows come home. Ultimately, we still need to comply because to do otherwise is a nail in the coffin – literally and figuratively.

Viruses do not gather. Viruses do not go on dates. Viruses do not socialise. People gather. People go on dates. People socialise. Viruses do not spread. People spread viruses.

Where there is a will, there is always a way. We just need to press the ‘button’, and stop being indifferent.
